Clinical meaning
Chest pain can originate from cardiac ischemia (demand exceeding supply), pleural irritation, musculoskeletal strain, esophageal spasm, or anxiety. Cardiac pain is mediated by visceral afferent nerve fibers that also innervate the arm and jaw, explaining referred pain patterns.
