CNPLE domain: Reproductive and Sexual Health. Prenatal care is frequently tested on the CNPLE because it spans assessment, diagnostics, health promotion, risk stratification, and collaborative care โ all key NP competencies. Canadian NPs in primary care, community health, and some obstetric settings provide routine prenatal care and must know when to refer to obstetrics. Learning objectives: - Perform and interpret first- and second-trimester prenatal screening - Identify high-risk obstetric conditions requiring specialist referral - Apply Canadian guidelines (SOGC, PHAC) to obstetric screening - Screen for gestational diabetes using the Canadian Diabetes Association protocol - Assess blood pressure and proteinuria for gestational hypertension and preeclampsia - Provide preconception counselling NP scope in prenatal care (Canadian context): NPs in most Canadian provinces can provide routine prenatal care for uncomplicated pregnancies; complex obstetric cases should be co-managed with or referred to obstetricians.
