Why client education is tested on NCLEX-PN: Patient education is a core nursing function within PN scope. NCLEX-PN tests the nurse's ability to identify when education is needed, select appropriate teaching methods, assess learning readiness, evaluate understanding, and prioritize education among competing patient needs. PN scope in client education: - The PN reinforces teaching initiated by the RN or provider - The PN identifies learning needs and documents barriers to learning - The PN provides routine, standardized education for stable patients - The PN does NOT create new teaching plans independently โ this is an RN function - When the patient has new, complex, or high-risk education needs (e.g., newly diagnosed diabetes, post-op instructions for complex surgery), the PN reports to the RN Core principle: Effective education changes behavior.
