Clinical meaning
Peripheral vascular assessment differentiates arterial insufficiency (atherosclerotic occlusion reducing distal perfusion) from venous insufficiency (valvular incompetence causing blood pooling). The nurse uses pulse assessment, skin changes, ABI, and wound characteristics to determine the type and guide evidence-based interventions.
