An infant hip can be unstable even when the newborn appears comfortable and moves both legs. Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) may be discovered during routine examination, targeted imaging, or follow-up of a known risk factor such as breech presentation. The Pavlik harness is a positioning brace used for selected infants whose hips can be guided back into a stable, centered position. It does not force the legs together or hold them rigidly; its safety depends on gentle positioning, correct fit, and repeated orthopedic assessment.
