NCLEX-RN
Breastfeeding support begins with one clinical question: is the infant transferring enough milk without causing maternal tissue injury? Time at the breast and a calm-looking feed do not answer it. Assess the dyad through observed sucking and swallowing, infant hydration and weight trajectory, and maternal comfort. This focus guides early help, protects supply when direct feeding is limited, and identifies illness requiring escalation.
