Pathophysiology
Clinical Framing
Most hypertension is asymptomatic and managed longitudinally. However, the NP must reliably distinguish hypertensive urgency from emergency — and within emergency, identify which organ is acutely damaged to direct immediate ED transfer. The critical error to avoid: rapidly lowering BP in urgency (causing ischemic harm) or failing to recognize an emergency and managing as urgency.
