By the end of this lesson, you should be able to: 1. Relate vaginal wall structure, vascularity, innervation, and endocrine changes to clinical findings. 2. Distinguish physiologic pregnancy discharge from candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, rupture of membranes, and postpartum complications. 3. Perform or assist with a consent-based, trauma-informed speculum assessment and select appropriate specimens. 4. Prioritize care for suspected membrane rupture, genital tract trauma, postpartum hemorrhage, and systemic infection. 5. Apply US maternal-newborn screening and medication-safety principles to vaginal assessment.
