Osteosarcoma is a malignant bone tumour that most often affects children, adolescents, and young adults. It commonly develops in the long bones, especially around the knee and upper arm/shoulder areas. Typical symptoms include persistent bone pain, swelling, tenderness, decreased range of motion, limping, and pain that worsens at night or with activity. Osteosarcoma can weaken bone and increase the risk of pathologic fracture. It can also metastasize, most commonly to the lungs, so respiratory changes are important to report promptly.
